National Lottery Funding to Support Marginalised Young Women in West Sussex

We are proud to share that The Juno Project has been awarded £9,252 from The National Lottery Community Fund, allowing us to significantly expand our support for girls and young women aged 11–16 across West Sussex. This funding will help us deliver four new 10-week groups, each for 6-20 young women, focused on psychoeducation and personal development.

Why This Matters

Between July 2024 and January 2025, we spoke with 69 girls aged 10–16 across West Sussex. The consultation revealed worrying trends:

  • 62.5% don’t feel connected to their community

  • 70% feel undervalued and unheard

  • 97.5% believe there needs to be more support and activities tailored for their age group

These statistics underline a serious gap in services for girls in the region — and thanks to this grant, and National Lottery players, we can begin to close that gap.

Where We’re Making an Impact

The funding will help us run additional groups in Worthing, Littlehampton, Crawley, and East Grinstead, areas facing significant challenges:

  • Crawley and parts of Littlehampton are among the 10% most deprived areas in England

  • Worthing has the highest multiple deprivation score in the county

  • Ashplats ward in East Grinstead offers minimal access to youth mental health support

What Our Programmes Do

We are proud to create safe, non-judgemental spaces where girls and young women can explore their identity, emotions, relationships, and self-worth. Our work helps them build resilience and healthy coping strategies.

Everything we do is guided by one powerful question:
“What are your gifts, and how will you use them?”

Thank You to National Lottery Players

We are incredibly grateful to the National Lottery and its players. This funding ensures we can reach more young women and help them build stronger, more hopeful futures.
